Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the major international airport in Malaysia, which is popularly referred to as Malaysia Airport. Apart form being the leading airport hub in Malaysia, it is also the one of the major airport in the entire Southeast Asia. The airport is built at a cost of about US$3.5 billion and it is situated in the Sepang district in Selangor, nearly about 45 km away from the Kuala Lumpur city center and the airport basically serves to Greater Klang Valley conurbation.

Malaysia Airport is the busiest and largest airport in Malaysia. Back in year 2014, Malaysia Airport handled about 48,930,409 passengers and about 753,899 tonnage of cargo. As of late, the airport is the 20th busiest airport in the world in terms of total passenger transportation and 13th-busiest airport in terms of international passenger handling and 28th busiest in terms of cargo handling.

The airport is now owned and operated by the Malaysia Airports Sepang Sdn Bhd. Malaysia Airport also serves as the primary hub of Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, AirAsia X, MASkargo, and Malindo Air etc.

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport was inaugurated back in June of 1993 by replacing the existing Subang International Airport, which is now converted to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport. The total area covered by the airport is nearly 100 square kilometers on reclaimed agricultural land, which is one of the largest airport sites in the world.

The initial growth of the Malaysia International Airport was a bit dull due to the global financial downturn and also due to the outbreak of the SARS disease. However, later the boom of Malaysia's economy had further boosted up Kuala Lumpur International Airport's passenger counts and the airport witnessed significant growth in its traffic by hitting 25 million mark by year 2007.
